We see him in a different light from Oscar’s perspective and I, for one, wasn’t a big fan of Charlie from the beginning. I also like the glimpses we get of Charlie. It was a joy to read the moments with Jack and his little brother and with his mom. I think the authors did great in capturing the essence of the Philippine culture, how Filipinos are, how a Filipino mom would be, and the importance of family. And I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, just different from the norm.Īlso, I absolutely love Jack’s relationship with Jesse! I enjoyed all of their interactions and it was so nice to finally meet Jack’s family. We usually see a lot of the side characters as well, but this time it’s different. I love that most of the focus centered on Jack and Oscar, which is kind of unusual for Krista and Becca’s books. They’re both very mature and they don’t have unnecessary drama. Jack’s personality just meshes well with Oscar’s. And Jack doesn’t seem to beat around the bush. He’s one of my favorite characters in the Like Us series. I enjoy being inside Oscar’s head and seeing everything and everyone through his eyes especially his best friends, Farrow and Donnelly. I mean, he can joke around with Farrow and Donnelly and SFO but he always had that air of maturity. I think Jack is the perfect match for Oscar because I always thought Oscar was someone who’s a no-BSer.
